La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad is an Omni resort with epic pools, a beautiful golf course, a renowned spa and amazing views. Whether you are looking for a spa day getaway, staycation or vacation, La Costa Resort and Spa offers everything you could want and more.
I will cover everything from the room types to the amazing amenities so you can enjoy all that Omni La Costa Resort and Spa has to offer.
Omni La Costa Resort and Spa Rooms
These are the cheapest of their room types, but nevertheless they are amazing rooms! We actually stayed in a Plaza room for our wedding and since we only used it to sleep and get ready, it was the perfect size for my husband and I.
With a choice of either one king bed or two queen beds, the 425 square foot rooms also include a desk and chair. The perfect room for those looking to enjoy La Costa Resort and Spa’s amenities or explore Carlsbad for most of their stay.
Plaza rooms are also closest to the pools and shops. We have even stayed in a “tennis room” closer to the tennis courts which is only a short walk from the main areas of the resort.
The Signature rooms offer a seating table and chairs for two with a king bed or two queen beds without a seating table. Most of the signature rooms have beautiful golf course views.
La Costa Rooms
La Costa rooms are 600 square feet and spacious! We just stayed in this room for our anniversary and it overlooks the courtyard where the Garden pools and Suites are located. It is a much quieter part of the resort, being a few minute walk from the main attractions of the resort.
These rooms have a soaking tub and large shower, a sofa (some with a sofa bed) and a seating table with chairs. Here are some photos of our La Costa room which we absolutely loved!
Omni La Costa Resort & Spa offers a few different suite types. The Plaza Suites are large with a private bedroom with either a king bed or two queen beds. The La Costa Suites are a tad smaller than the Plaza Suites but ideal for families who need a sofa bed in the living room area. There are also the Family Suites with two bedrooms.
The Presidential Suites are the biggest and most beautiful of the suites, with a private panoramic golf course views and 3,000 or so square feet. These luxurious suites include four balconies, a fireplace, small kitchen, dining area for six and 2-3 bedrooms.
Villas are a great alternative to the Presidential Suites, also with plenty of space, a kitchen and balcony or patio. These are more Hacienda-style and Presidential Suites are most “coastal”.
There are different types of villas including rooms, studios and suites. The suites are as large as some homes and is great for a “home away from home” feel.
Omni La Costa Resort & Spa has some of the best pools! When we arrived we went straight to the adults only pool called the Edge pool. It has so many lounging areas, a ton of jacuzzis including infinity spas, a pool, cabanas, pool-side drink service and a bar with television screens.
We loved our private jacuzzi overlooking the golf course. It wasn’t hard for us to find a jacuzzi to have for ourselves since there are several. Here are some photos from the Edge pool:
The Splash Pools
While the Edge pool is great for adults, the splash pool is perfect for families. They have a slash pad, water slides, pools for everyone, pool-side dining and bar. Talk about a water park at a resort!
The Garden Pools
The garden pools are great for a more quiet pool experience. The garden pools are located near the suites and spa rooms (which is where we stayed during our last visit). There are also jacuzzis and fire pits to relax and unwind in the evening.
Dining at La Costa Resort & Spa
On our recent romantic getaway, we decided we must have dinner at Bob’s Steakhouse as well as a healthy and delicious lunch at the spa. Neither disappointed and are our personal favorite places to eat at Omni La Costa.
Bob’s Steakhouse is a a Texas-style steak and chop house. It is definitely a dark and romantic when you are inside. Even as a parent of three myself, I would not recommend going here with kids. It is better for couples, date night, anniversaries or any adults-only dinner occasion. Get a babysitter for this one!
Upon arriving, we were already so hungry, so we ate their bread and variety of pickled vegetables that are displayed on every table.
I ordered their ribeye steak which was huge! They offered it in 14 and 18 ounce cuts. It was cooked to perfection and served with a large glazed carrot and skillet potatoes with sauce.
Bob’s Steakhouse also offers a variety of wines by the glass, half bottles and full bottles. We ordered a half bottle of wine which was cute (basically a mini bottle of wine) and was the perfect amount for the two of us but a bit cheaper than buying wine by the glass.
Vue is the restaurant located in the lobby area that has indoor and outdoor seating with beautiful golf course views. If you get breakfast included in your room charge (they offer different packages), this is the place you go.
Every time we stay at Omni La Costa we add on the breakfast package because it’s a great deal. You basically get a $75 credit for each day. If you do not use the full $75 you miss out of the rest, so be sure to use up as much of the credit as you can! I ordered a cinnamon bun to take to go and ordered both juice and coffee. They also add a 18% gratuity charge to your bill which is convenient and can be covered with the breakfast credit.
The food is mediocre, but when it’s basically free with the package add-on, I can’t complain. I ordered the lobster scramble one morning which had a generous portion of lobster. The second day I ordered a fruit and yogurt parfait that was served in a mason jar and cinnamon bun that I took it to go for my kids.
Other dining options include pool-side dining, room service, the marketplace cafe and spa cafe (which I will talk about below).
The La Costa Resort Spa
This world-renowned spa is seriously my favorite! Whether you want a day to yourself, a mom spa day, couples spa day or a group affair like a bachelorette party, this is the place to go for everything spa and relaxation.
Since we are local to Carlsbad, a day at the spa is amazing but staying at the resort overnight is even more amazing.
I’ve come to La Costa Resort & Spa for my wedding night, prenatal messages, girls spa days and a romantic getaway with my husband. We even saw a bachelorette party going down and it was epic!
From what I remember, you could purchase spa access for the day for $75 without any other spa treatments or you could add on to a spa treatment (such as a pedicure or massage for $25). One thing I regret to inform you is that they have recently changed their policy and are no longer offering spa day access on the weekends.
You can purchase access to the spa for they day Monday-Thursday for $100 and as an add-on for $45. I still feel strongly that it is more than worth it! If you go all day or even just a few hours, you really get your money’s worth.
The same policy applies to adding the spa treatments less than $180 (basically anything other than massages). While you used to be able to go in for the cheapest spa service on their menu (a manicure or pedicure for around $75) and add on the spa, you can now only add on for massage treatments over $180.
From what I understood from the manager, weekends are just too busy these days to accommodate day spa access customers and add ons for treatments under $180. The Omni La Costa spa brochure on their website doesn’t quite reflect this change yet, which I did bring to the managers attention.
Either way, be sure to book appointments if you plan to use the spa because they book up fast!
At my most recent visit, I had a pedicure before my spa day and I loved every second of it! Although it was a $75 pedicure, it was well worth it for the $45 spa add-on. The pedicure was 50 minutes and includes a nice foot scrubs and massage. The manager made an exception for us since we were unaware of the policy change and were celebrating our anniversary. I really appreciated that they made an exception for us.
Upon walking into the spa, you are greeted and get a personal tour of the spa facilities and given a locker with a unique secure pass code you can set to store your belongings.
I love everything about the La Costa Spa! Amenities include a beautiful courtyard, private indoor jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, cold rosemary towels, large showers with shampoo, conditioner, soap and shaving cream, relaxation lounge with spa trail mix and infused water, magazines and books to read, private outdoor pool and jacuzzi, robe and sandals to use, hair dryers and other complimentary hygiene products.
La Costa Spa Cafe
The spa cafe at the La Costa Resort is my favorite dining spot on the property. Their menu features healthy yet delicious. I have loved every item I have tried on the spa cafe menu.
My most favorite was this crab and papaya salad. They gave me a generous portion of crab (looks at the mound!!!) with fresh avocado and topped with fresh papaya. The garden salad on the side is always great. The purple potato chips were really good too.
The cocktails are also light and refreshing. I really enjoyed my grapefruit margarita (which I think they call an orange blossom margarita).
Other La Costa Resort and Spa Amenities
La Costa Resort and Spa is known for their world-class golf course and tennis program, where the pros have played!
Other amenities include a fitness center, Kidtopia kids center and gaming lounge with arcade games. La Costa Resort and Spa is just a short distance from Legoland and other Carlsbad attractions.
